I'm Dr. Crystal!
Dr. Crystal Newby is on a mission to make a positive impact in this world. Dr. Crystal is a higher education professional who understands the issues that arise in the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) space. She is passionate about these issues and desires to bring forth positive change.
Dr. Crystal is a highly sought after DEI consultant and voice in the community. Her interview-style podcast, 'Dr. Crystal Says', seeks to empower black women and discuss the issues, challenges, and joys that black women face in society. She also offers DEI trainings, workshops, and other speaking events.
Dr. Crystal has a doctorate in education from Johns Hopkins University in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Education, among many of her list of credentials. She is a Board of Trustee member at her alma mater, The University of Scranton and is currently a member of the Advisory Council for the Philadelphia College Prep Roundtable, a college access and completion network. She is also a past member of the Board of Directors for Extra-Ordinary Birthdays, a nonprofit who hosts birthday parties for children residing in homeless shelters in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. In 2020, she interviewed Ibram X. Kendi, National Book Award winner and New York Times bestselling author of How to be an Antiracist and Antiracist Baby. In 2021, Dr. Crystal had an essay published in Chicken Soup for the Soul- I'm Speaking Now: Black Women Share Their Truth in 101 Stories of Love, Courage and Hope.
